anniversary of barrier-free democracy (since 2025)
Nach Angaben der Geschäftsstelle des Landeswahlleiters sind in Schleswig-Holstein rund 85 Prozent aller Wahllokale barrierefrei. (Quelle: faz). Bei insgesamt 2.443 Urnenwahlbezirken im Land bedeutet dies, dass etwa 366 Wahllokale nicht barrierefrei sind. Auf meinen Wahlbezirk trifft das zu – völlig unnötigerweise, das Wahllokal befindet sich im ersten Stock (why??) einer Grundschule, die über ein Erdgeschoss (okay, Hochpaterre, aber für viele dann doch eher machbar als der 1. Stock) und eine ebenerdige Turnhalle (nehmt die doch einfach) verfügt.
Hier haben wie sie, die unfreiwilligen Briefwähler:innen, die nicht bis zum 23. Februar Zeit für ihre Wahlentscheidung zur Bundestagswahl 2025 haben, sondern ihre Briefwahlunterlagen aller-allerspätestens am heutigen 20. Februar einwerfen müssen, damit sie rechtzeitig ankommen. Das ist undemokratisch, generell sowieso, aber auch im speziellen in diesen Wochen mit der schwindelerregend hohen Ereignisdichte.
... und bevor ihr fragt: ich kann laufen. Treppen steigen auch. Zwar nicht besonders schnell, nicht immer schmerzfrei und elegant sieht's auch nicht aus, aber ich kann dieses Wahllokal aufsuchen. Nichtsdestotrotz bin ich für derartiges, was vielen von euch wahrscheinlich gar nicht auffällt, sensibilisiert und hoffe, dass das Wahllokal 504 in Lübeck (und alle anderen auch) bei kommenden Wahlen barrierefrei sind. Ist kein Hexenwerk.
Ich erkläre hiermit in meiner überschaubaren Filterblase den 20. Februar offiziell zum Jahrestag der barrierefreien Demokratie.

With a total of 2,443 polling districts in the state, this means that around 366 polling stations are not barrier-free. This applies to my constituency – completely unnecessarily, as the polling station is located on the first floor (why??) of a primary school, which has a ground floor (okay, mezzanine floor, but more feasible for many than the first floor) and a ground-level gym (just use that).
Here they are, the involuntary postal voters who do not have until 23 February to vote in the 2025 Bundestag election, but must post their postal voting documents by today, 20 February, at the very latest, so that they arrive on time.. That is undemocratic, in general anyway, but especially in these weeks with the dizzyingly high density of events.
... and before you ask: I can walk. I can climb stairs too. Not particularly fast, not always pain-free and it doesn't look elegant either, but I can get to this polling station. Nevertheless, I am sensitised to such things, which many of you probably don't even notice, and hope that polling station 504 in Lübeck (and all the others too) will be barrier-free in future elections. It's not rocket science.
